How to Set Up Wechat Payment

WeChat payment is now available for foreigners using major Chinese banks.

In the past, WeChat payment required a bank account created with Chinese ID. This blocked you from all the benefits of Chinese O2O spree. Now you can sign up WeChat payment with a bank account you created with your passport.

1. Add your card

In your "Me" section there is the option "Wallet".


If you don't see "Wallet" in this section, you need to update your WeChat to the latest version.

Once you click it the "Wallet" menu will open


Click on this icon:


And then to "Add a card" and follow the procedure.

Set up a six-digit code as your payment password.


Enter your full name and bank card number then press the "Next".



Enter the phone number you registered with the bank


You will be sent an SMS message with a code. It may take up to a minute for the code to arrive.


Done! Now you can see the "Card" icon on the "Wallet" menu and also your "Balance"


2. Pay

You can now pay with WeChat Payment!

Click on "Quick Pay" on the "Wallet" menu


The option will then simply display a bar code which you can show to the cashier in the partner stores.

  • Below 300 RMB : you simply need to show the code and the transaction is done
  • Above 300 RMB : you will need to enter a secret payment code that you set up before.

Through WeChat Payment, you can purchase your items and goods easier and faster. There are many companies that have signed up to the WeChat payment system.

You also get benefits as WeChat offers discount for some payments, for example, your mobile phone balance.
